Creativity is good for the soul.
Imagination and creativity surrounded me when I was growing up. Even now when I smell clay I am brought back to a time in my Dad’s shed, he is making sculptures and teaching me how to build a snake pot with a piece of clay. I was 5. I remember watching my Mum as she sewed on her machine, the concentration and the level of detail was fascinating, I couldn't look away. I was 9.
My favorite memory of Christmas is when I was 7, we ran down to find a big cardboard house that my dad had built from the box the washing machine came in. He had cut out the windows and made a door that opened and closed. It was amazing. My present was a cute little plastic cooker which was inside the house, but for me and my sister, the house was the best bit. I think we kept it for months until it eventually fell apart.
Creativity became more than just making something to give to someone or to sell, it became an escape. Some people like to do yoga, or go for a run, but for me I like to create, I like to experiment with different mediums and I love exploring new ways of doing things. For me it is like meditating.
The truth is you do not have to be ‘artistic’ to do creative things. You do not need to know what you are making before you start creating. You can simply start and do it for the fun, for how it makes you feel, for where it takes you to.
Studies show that creativity can have positive effects on your well-being. It can be used as a distraction to avoid stress, used to give your mind space to reassess problems in your life or help you make plans and it is a means of self-development to face challenges by building up self esteem and confidence.
Ways you can be creative:
Dancing
Baking

Jewelry making

Designing
Acting
Writing
Listening
Above are just some examples of how we can be creative. So why not give it a go and see if it helps you as much as it helps me. I hope it does!
Happy Creating.
